Sorry I haven’t blogged in a few weeks. It’s been a busy time.
But with warmer weather taking over much of the US it’s time to get back to focusing on healthy living, healthy eating and this blog. 🙂
And the topic for the day is…sugar.
Sugar can really wreak havoc on your body, causing all kinds of health problems.
One of my favorite books about sugar is Sugar Crush.
Sugar Crush may sound like a new candy bar or a drink that will provide a great sugar high. It’s actually a plan, carefully formulated by top nerve surgeon, Dr. Richard Jacoby. Sugar Crush will shock you with Jacoby’s explanation of the link between sugar and preventable medical conditions.
You may also be shocked when you find out that the average American consumes over 160 pounds of sugar per year. It’s one reason why medical bills and premature deaths are rising, just from the problems obesity causes.
We love sugar. It’s evident by the thousands of new cases of diabetes each year, adding the expense of over $175 billion per year. When you get diabetes, your brain begins to shut off functioning of your arms, legs and kidneys and you’re more likely to have a stroke.
If that’s not enough to make you want to eliminate sugar from you diet, you can add high cholesterol, high blood pressure, headaches, acid reflux disorder and fatigue. Those maladies and more are just an example of the growing sugar epidemic and how it’s affecting the population.
Sugar Crush provides so much information on sugar addiction that you’ll have no doubt when you finish the book that sugar needs to be eliminated permanently from your life. There’s a list in the book of other names that sugar hides behind.
Some of those sugary food additives include fructose, corn sweetener, corn syrup, dextrose and brown sugar. There are many more on the list but you get the idea, we’re being lied to and sabotaged in our efforts to lose weight and get healthy.
There’s one shocking fact after another in Sugar Crush. If you don’t already know what sugar does to our bodies, you’ll find out as the authors explain how your pancreas becomes unable to do its job because of processing the sugar in your system, insulin resistance occurs.
When your insulin gets too much for the pancreas to handle, the insulin and blood sugar become inflamed. It’s then that you realize you’re in big trouble. Your immune system falters, triglycerides, blood pressure and cholesterol are raised to levels which put you in high risk for a heart attack or stroke.
Dry skin, allergies and wrinkles add to your problems that sugar has created and your blood vessels and nerves become inflamed. That leads to compression of the nerves that makes it more difficult for the brain to communicate with the rest of your body.
Sugar Crush reads just like a cliffhanger novel. You won’t be able to put it down after awhile because it’s revealing and explaining one incredible fact after another about how sugar can be your downfall.
But, there is hope. You can turn your failing health around by using the tools offered in Sugar Crush to rid yourself of the cravings and reverse the damage that has already occurred.
It’s worth a read, over and over again!
